On Dec. 5, some of the four major categories for the 2015 Grammy Awards nominations were announced on CBS This Morning. The rest of the nominations were announced periodically throughout the day on Twitter and other social media outlets. The final nomination category for Album of the Year was announced later on in the day at night on the CBS special, A Very Grammy Christmas.

The nominees for Album of the Year are Beck- Morning Phase,
Beyonce- Beyonce,
 Ed Sheeran- x,
Sam Smith- In the Lonely Hour
and Pharrell Williams- Girl.

Among all of the Album of the Year nominees, Beck garnered a lot of recognition for his latest album, Morning Phase, which was not only nominated for Album of the Year, but also for Best Rock Album. The album’s single “Blue Moon” was nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song.

Sam Smith also scored big with his newest album. He received six nominations, including major nomination categories such as Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year for “Stay With Me” and Best New Artist.

In the Best Alternative Music Album category, Arcade Fire’s Reflektor was a shoo-in for a nomination in the category considering the acclaim that the album received following its much anticipated release. Although Reflektor was not nominated for Album of the Year like its predecessor, The Suburbs, which ultimately won the most prestigious category of the night, it has much competition in the alternative album category. Other albums that were nominated are, alt-J- This Is All Yours, Cage the Elephant- Melophobia, St. Vincent St. Vincent and Jack White- Lazaretto.

The 57th annual Grammy Awards will air live on February 8, 2015 on CBS from Los Angeles at the Staples Center.
