On January 13, the East Outdoors Club will be embarking on this year’s ski trip in Killington, Vermont. The trip will last two nights and two days, as the students will return on the 15th. About forty students of all-different skill levels will leave Friday at three-thirty in the afternoon and take the seven-hour ride up to Killington. Although the club did not have a ski trip last year, there have been several trips in the past.

“Three years ago we went to Snow Mountain in Vermont and two years ago we went toSugarbush in Vermont, four years ago we went to Elk Mountain in the Poconos,” said club advisor, Mr. Joe Cucinotti.

The students will begin skiing on Saturday and will continue on Sunday before leaving to return home. As skiing is a much different athletic experience than other sports, there is are no experience requirements to go on this trip. There will be mountains for all skills and abilities. “I love the skiing, its great getting out of the local area and going to the other areas and its just great…its just fun to see kids just get out and cut loose for a three day weekend outside the school environment and outside a typical sport environment,” said Cucinotti. “Coaching the sports that I do does not really allow for as much freedom that comes along with a ski trip like this… it’s a much different athletic experience.”

While there used to be just a ski club at East, the club has transitioned to an outdoor activities club, in which there will be multiple events throughout the year besides the ski trip. In the spring, Cucinotti hopes to plan a zip-lining trip along with the mud run that is hosted by Rancocas Valley Regional High School.
