East vocal department members showcase their talent at the winter concert

The East vocal department held a great concert on Thursday, Dec. 18. The talent of all the choral students and the variety of music genres, from gospel to pop, made for a very enjoyable night.

“As a senior, it’s great being an example for [the students in] Vocal Workshop,” said Kate Braunstein (’15), a member of East Singers and Voce. “Winter Concert is a time for introducing them to what they could become one day.”

Vocal Workshop started the concert off with an African song, “Thula Klizeo.” Members of the step team contributed their dancing skills to the performance.

Concert Choir, Chansons and East Singers sang three songs each. Chansons’ “I Am Not Yours” and East Singers’ “The Battle of Jericho” were particularly enjoyable. However, the small groups gave the stand-out performances.

The Belles performed three songs throughout the night. Their ability to sing so beautifully while playing the bells is nothing short of astounding.

Casual Harmony’s performance of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” added some holiday spirit to the concert. Adam Crognale (‘17) was the soloist.

Key of She sang “All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor. The group sounded great, although the song itself has been rather overplayed. Nicole Dublado (‘15) did a great job as a soloist.

Voce members, the former Madrigals, no longer wear Renaissance costumes, but nevertheless looked very nice in their red attire. They performed three songs, including an entertaining “The Tortoise and the Hare.”

Stay Tuned, which is a combination of Key of She and Casual Harmony, performed two pop hits, Coldplay’s “Sky Full of Stars” and Sia’s “Chandelier.” Jack Tremper (‘16) and Amrita Mitra (’15), two of the soloists, sang very impressively.

Finally, Belles and Voce combined to sing “Carol of the Bells.” It was a pleasant end to a fantastic concert.
