Stay Tuned competition group competes in International High School A Capella Northeastern Semi Finals.

Cherry Hill East’s a capella group, Stay Tuned, placed second and won the award for best choreography on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the International Championship of High School A Capella (ICHSA) Northeastern Semi-finals.

At the end of October the group submitted a video to be chosen for a place in the competition. After they discovered they would be competing, Stay Tuned practiced for approximately two and a half hours a week.

On Saturday, Ms. Lockart and the a cappella singers traveled to Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, NJ to show the other teams what they had to offer.

The last time Stay Tuned competed in the ICHSA was in 2013 when the group also placed as first runner up and received the best choreography award.

Ms. Lockart said, “[This competition] was much more intense than the first time.”

The reason for this is that ICHSA held a preliminary round leading to the semifinals.

Paulina Levner (’15) attended both the 2013 and 2015 competitions and said, “[They were] a lot different.”

Stay Tuned presented a total of four songs when competing on Saturday. They sang “Find You” by Zedd, “Safe With Me” by Sam Smith, “Centuries” by Fall Out Boy, as well as a mashup between Coldplay’s “Midnight” and “A Sky Full Of Stars”

Prior to its performance, the group was allowed a ten minute sound check as well as rehearsal and preparation time.

Ms. Lockart said, “We plan to continue to compete and bring home first place next year, so Stay Tuned.”
