East Boys Lacrosse team crushes the West team with a final score of 19-3

April 1, 2017

The Cherry Hill High School East Boys Lacrosse team defeated the Cherry Hill High School West Lions by a score of 19-3. Saint Joseph’s University commit, Evan Campbell (‘17), kicked off the scoring for the Cougars early in the first quarter. Campbell would go on to put five more in the back of the cage along with four assists, tying East’s single game points record with ten.

The Cougars continued to dominate offensively led by NJIT commit Eric Sherman (‘18) who works in conjunction with Justin Brown (‘18) and Justin Adler (‘18). Brown put five out of his seven shots past West goaltender, Will Marble (‘18), along with an assist and three ground balls. Sherman, set up most of Brown’s goals and even tied East’s single game assist record with six assists. Sherman also added a hattrick and three ground balls onto his statistics against West. Adler added the cherry on top for the unstoppable East attack with two goals. Matt Braun (‘17) and Cade Zaris (‘18) had a goal a piece, making it six different scorers for the East offense.

Starting in net for the Cougars was sophomore Harrison Gutin (‘19) who played phenomenally against a clumsy West offense. Ben Vaupen (‘17) replaced Gutin late in the game and even recorded an assist before the buzzer rang signaling the end to the blood bath.

John Robertson (‘18) led the subpar West offense with three goals. Robertson could not find the key to unlock the solid East defense led by Andrew Curran (‘18) who scooped up four ground balls.

The new coaching regime comprised of head coach, Justin Meyers and assistant coach, Ben Whitcraft seems to be proving effective for the Cougars but their real test will come Wednesday, April 5 against West Deptford where East will be without their star Campbell.
